The Explor Wendel Park

A former coal mining site created in 1862, the Wendel mine complex, which is now known as “Explor Wendel Park”, offers leisure-time and cultural activities for the whole family. Visitors can discover the Wendel Miners Museum, the Wendel Mine, cycle paths and walking trails, and they can also enjoy a large number of activities all year round (visits to mine towns, ….). The Explor Wendel Park also makes up one of the largest and most complete complexes of coal mining buildings in Europe.

The Wendel Miners Museum

Follow the miner’s day before reaching his or her workplace by discovering the authentic hanging room, showers, lamp store, or even the stamp office… The trilingual exhibition spaces (French, German, English) will allow you to understand what coal is and to discuss topics such as the history of the region, the miners’ daily lives with their families as well as in their social environment (education, health, leisure, etc.).

The Wendel Mine

Head over 1,200 metres underground with the miners, relive the descent in a cage at a speed of 12 meters/second, and discover the coal mining sites with their stunning slopes, that’s the adventure of theWendel Mine!

The Wendel washroom

The former coal washroom has now been replaced by a huge 1,500m² event room capable of accommodating up to 699 people. Let yourself be amazed by this authentic setting made of metal and impressive footbridges for a seminar, a conference or simply for a meal with your group.

Many tours to discover the life of the coal miner in Lorraine are available depending on what you are interested in.   • Exceptional closing dates: 1 January, 1 May, 24-25-26 and 31 December.
